smokey as all hell.

i'd like to take credit for co-curating this bbq/impromptu photoshoot on paul's back deck -- and although i can't confirm the accuracy of this claim, i'll be the first to testify that it was a well rounded night featuring some of the best looking friends i have.

i am going to be away until the 11th, and in the mean time i am going to attempt to pre-program some posts to appear while i am away.

i hope you like black and white, and 35mm.
and more importantly, i hope this works.

Friday, July 3, 2009

i was attacked by the white panther, mid-day, today.

scr - as promised.

it takes me a long while to get through a roll or 35mm, and drop it off, and pick it up -- then you have those first two frames that never fit in the sleeve and they sort of just float around, and i am never sure where to put them?

scr at her opening. change me forever, le gallery.
toronto - may, 2009.

i really like sarah clifford-rashotte. she is an all star.
she is also in a show opening july 10th (7-10) at le gallery.

i'll be in new hampshire at the time (sorry sarah).

in case you were wondering what a photo-shoot with jamie campbell is like. i'd say it is pretty casual. ask mimi cabell, one time i photographed her naked.

i am still in toronto, and am pretty low on material until i get back to montreal and scan some negatives. in the meantime, this is what i found on anita's camera. i haven't felt embarrassed in a while.

image copyright bryan sheffield.

i've been following the progression of photographer, bryan sheffield, for some years now. i really like his aesthetic. he used to post a lot on this old photo forum i followed (for some reason the name escapes me?). anyway, i was looking at his site today and came across this picture - AND IT LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE ODETTE! i've just never really seen a cat with her coloration, and similarities. so it sort of blew my mind.

check out his site: http://www.bryansheffield.com/

revelation.

in 1958 weeegee said this (and i think he was talking to me):

"... now for instance, say you have a camera - you make good pictures, everybody likes them. but you have to get out of the class where you only photograph your friends and relatives indoors. thats very nice, but, if you want to do it professionally, and i don't see any reason why you shouldn't, go out and photograph strangers. i know you are afraid to do it at first. i was scared stiff myself, but you have to do it. and most people like to be photographed, they consider it an honor to be picked out of a big crowd. in other words, you can't be a nice-nelly and do photography."

wicked & awesome

fjord, a photo collective of emerging talent and an all around great resource for wicked photography, just featured a small bit of my work/thoughts on their artists' space section.

it is worth investing some time and going through the alphabetical list of photographers. also, their listings feed is immensely helpful when trying to keep track of what's going on in the world of photo, and how you have an opportunity to potentially be part of it.

finally -- i just wanted to say thank you to veronica at www.ipreferbears.blogspot.com for all the nice-nice words and awesome blog.

GRAPHIC  MADE OF STILLS

today i hung out with 3/4th of the guys in MADE OF STILLS, a photograpic collective of sorts based in montreal. they were kind enough to give me a studio tour and introduce me to the best sandwich joint i have encountered in montreal to date.

they are super welcoming guys, who seem to be up to some great stuff spanning all realms of photograhy. make sure to check out their collective site, as well as their individual sites.

thank you paul k. for picking up my NEW BIKE!
keeping the brown bike tradition alive since 2003.

i thought this was an unlikely coupling.
one seems natural and seemingly responsible, and the other is just hanging out - sharing all the joys of child bearing. it is hard to say who is who. maybe they have created bi-specie-birdlings?

ready avocados.
cuddle puddles.
rusted in bike chains.
smoke in mirrors.
the whited faced panther's ferocious roar.
and the black faced panther's tunnel attack.
cherry bombs and lakes and ginger iced cream.
fruit on bbq's and farmer tans.
photographs that are better then i am really capable of taking.

badlands

PAT. 23650 DSG.120671

chris boyne once bought me this mechanical self-timer from a booth at the jean-talon flea market. i had held it in awe the week prior, but didn't have the guts to purchase it. he claimed the gesture was in return for picking up his girl from the airport, but i suspect it was more to do with kind-heartedness. the group shot above is an example of its power.

rosa, niagara falls via. australia -- two and a quarter.

it had been some eight years since the last time we were in the same vicinity. eight years is a long time don't you think. people's voices don't tend to change, that's for sure. some people grow mustaches. others don't seem to grow at all.
